“Why We Love Cemeteries”: Roberto Mighty’s parents used to recite poetry in a local cemetery. When he grew up, he became an award-winning filmmaker, TV producer and multimedia artist. Many of his projects are about burial grounds. Roberto will lead a lecture/screening/Q&A about three of his original cemetery projects: the PBS series "World’s Greatest Cemeteries"; the augmented reality colonial graveyard project, “We Were Here Too”, and his inaugural artist residency at Mount Auburn Cemetery, “earth.sky”.

Roberto will share surprising stories, film clips and photos about diverse historical figures interred in Boston and around the world; landscape architecture, horticulture, wildlife and trees; local cemetery monuments; an introduction to interpreting gravestones; and other exciting topics. Roberto Mighty, MFA, is an award-winning filmmaker, TV producer and multimedia artist. In 2024, he was awarded a grant by the City of Boston and The Mellon Foundation to create an original augmented reality experience in a colonial graveyard, "We Were Here Too". His historical documentary about Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King, "Legacy of Love", hosted by EMMY-Award winning newscaster Liz Walker, broadcasts seasonally nationwide on PBS stations. Roberto is the producer, writer, and host of two ongoing series on PBS: "World’s Greatest Cemeteries"; and "getting dot OLDER", a program about baby boomers across America. Roberto is America’s first Artist-in-Residence at a National Historic Landmark cemetery, where he produced 29 short films about Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has directed 50 NY Times best-selling audiobooks with authors like John Updike, Sandra Cisneros, Ben Mezrich, Gregory Maguire, and Andre Dubus III.
