Speakers:
Samir Abdul is from Darfur, Sudan and a survivor of the Darfur genocide. He is a stand-up comedian and producer in Chicago and an Artist-in-Residence at Northwestern University, where he explores how comedy can shape public dialogue. He hosts a podcast called A Professor and a Comedian Walk Into a Bar.
Kim Searcy is an associate professor of history at Loyola University Chicago, where he teaches courses on Islam in East Africa, African history, slavery in Muslim Africa and Islam in the African American experience. He is the author of “The Formation of the Sudanese Mahdist State” (2010).
