About this Event
Sex workers’ stories, knowledges, and histories are important. Our voices matter. On September 25th from 12:10- 2 pm EST, join us in-person or over Zoom to hear five of those voices.
The September edition of Whorestory titled “Ho[e]ldings: Accessing Sex Worker Knowledges,” features five speakers grappling with both what it means to access sex worker knowledges, and how institutions structure (in)accessibility and (il)legibility to these myriad forms. The speakers include current/former sex workers, scholars of sex work, and those who blur categorization. This event will be held in-person in Sydney Smith Hall, room SS2098 (also known as the Natalie Zemon Davis Conference Room) and over Zoom (the link will be sent out to all registered attendees on the day of the event).
Our five speakers and their paper titles are:
Lindsay Blewett: “How the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act Manufactures and Exacerbates Disability”
Rayven Morrow: “Heart and Hustle: Love and Dating in the World of Sex Work”
Ernestine Pastorello: "Recognizing Ourselves in the Archival Record: Participatory Historical Research by Sex Workers"
Maggie Ross: "’Whorestories’: Sex Work, Archives, and Police”
Jelena Vermilion, Executive Director of SWAP Hamilton and a 2024 YWCA Women of Distinction award recipient: Reclaiming "Whorestories": Sex Work, Archives, and the Law
