A visit to the Bandon Valley to look for, and learn more about, the Whooper Swans that overwinter there. They feed in the fields by day and then some of them roost on Ballinacarriga Lough by night. We will meet at Ballinacarriga first and then car-pool to Murragh (about 15 minutes) to a point where we can park and walk along a quiet road by the River Bandon to get a closer view of the Whoopers feeding. The walk, there and back, is about 3 km and it will be covered at a gentle pace. After 1½ to 2 hours we will drive back to Ballinacarriga Lough in time (hopefully!) to witness the Whoopers flying in to their roost site. You will need thick socks and lots of clothing layers as it likely to get cold. A torch will also be handy for the walk down to, and back from, the lakeside, as we will be there after sunset.
