He helps families plan for their disabled loved ones, while also advising trustees and other attorneys on situations that may affect those with special needs. In addition to his special needs practice, Seth also practices in the areas of estate, business, and charitable planning, including estate and trust administration. “I grew up around the special needs community in my small town, but had never heard of a special needs attorney. Right after law school I started working in wealth management as an Estate Planning Advisor, and one of my first clients had a special needs child. From that case on, I became the go-to advisor for everything special needs. As I began working on more cases, I realized three things: 1) I had a passion for this work; 2) the public benefits system is too complex; and 3) special needs families deserve better representation.
Workshop Info:
“Who, What, When, and Where? – Roles and Relationships in Planning for Today and the Future”
Brief Description – While parents wear all the hats in caring for a child, it is important to understand what each role means and determine who may be best to serve in that role for a child once a parent has passed. What are the roles? Well, that depends! Every child and family are different, so this presentation will cover a broad base from guardianship and alternatives, government benefits, Trusteeship, caregiving, and more. We will touch on which programs and options are available for parents of a child with autism while a minor and beyond 18. We will also look at how to best select the individuals to serve in each role when a parent is no longer able to.
