About this Event
Who pays in a warming Canada: Climate damages & the home insurance crisis
Home insurance is emerging as Canada’s canary in the coal mine, an early warning sign for a potential climate-driven financial crisis. As floods, fires, and storms worsen, premiums are rising, coverage is shrinking, and entire regions are edging towards uninsurability.
This event, part of Canada Climate Week Xchange, features a panel of experts that will connect the dots between emissions, affordability, a buckling insurance industry, and solutions such as a climate damages levy, that can chart a more sustainble path forward.
Bloomberg journalist Christine Dobby, will facilitate a discussion between:
- Dave Jones, former Californian Insurance Commissioner,
- Moira Gill, strategic advisor for the Institute for Catasrophic Loss Reduction and
- Kiera Taylor, insurance lead with Investors for Paris Compliance.
Audience members will have an opportunity to engage during the panel, and connect over drinks afterwards.
This event is funded in part by the Catherine Donnelly Foundation.
