The White Cliffs of Dover is a renowned coastal walk boasting stunning views of the English Channel and Dover Harbour. This landmark is hailed as one of England's finest, located at the end of the North Downs ridge, offering views of the French coast. Formed approximately 65 to 80 million years ago as a tropical ocean, the chalk cliffs took an estimated 10,000 years to form and are up to 250 meters deep. Historical landmarks include Deal Beach, believed to be Julius Caesar's landing site, and Henry VIII's Walmer and Deal Castles built as defences against French invasion. Today, the castles remain popular tourist attractions.

FOOD

We will pause during the hike for a light lunch, so please remember to pack some food and drinks. After the hike, we'll visit a local pub where you can buy refreshments and enjoy a meal.

PRICE:

  • Members: £30
  • Non-Members: £38

The price includes the guided hike and return train travel from the group departure station listed at the beginning of this event.

WHAT TO BRING:

For a comfortable and safe hiking experience, we recommend wearing appropriate hiking attire and footwear, ideally hiking boots. Bring waterproof clothing and footwear to prepare for any weather conditions.

Ensure you carry enough water for the hike - at least 1 litre per person, ideally 2 litres. Pack a delicious lunch or picnic to enjoy during your hike. Remember to bring additional money for drinks and refreshments after the hike.

The rest is on us! Our team will handle train tickets, logistics, and other necessary arrangements on the hike day. All you need to do is show up and enjoy a great day out in nature.

WARNING - DANGER OF FALLING FROM CLIFFS

The cliffs have steep drops, and parts of the soft chalk cliffs are eroding with pieces regularly breaking off. As there is no protective fencing in place, it's essential to keep a safe distance of at least 3 meters from the edges to avoid fatal accidents due to falling or ground collapse.

PLEASE NOTE: To secure your reservation, you must make the full payment. Reservations with incomplete payments will not be accepted.

DOG

Dogs are permitted on this trail, but they must be kept on a leash.

SAFETY

This hike is led by a trained hike leader and qualified Outdoor Activity First Aider. Outdoor activities carry a risk of personal injury. Please wear suitable hiking footwear and clothing, such as warm clothes and waterproofs in case of rain.

Photos & Video - All were taken by the hike leader on previous trips, so they accurately represent the views that you will see from the route that you'll be hiking.
