RYES Glorious RYES

Rye was used for whiskey in the US colonies because the hardy grain grew well in the rainy Northeast in newly arable land, AND after the Revolutionary War cut off access to British-controlled Caribbean molasses, colonists turned to locally grown rye to replace rum as their primary spirit. Known for its rich flavors, it was found to taste better when it arrived a year or two older when shipped out to the new territories in the south, and even better when it was blended with local corn spirit - the grain of choice as Corn was a requirement for homesteading new land. From there to Bootleggers ruining its reputation, to the cocktail bar re-introduction.

A fun opportunity for Whiskey Drinkers to learn a little more about the background of whiskies, and the small differences between Drinking & Tasting techniques

Quick Review using our favorite Tasting Glass the NEAT Glass alongside the trade favorite Glencairn Glass reminding guests that we sense "70%" of flavor via our nose not our tongue so catching the aromatics matter!
