Whisk & Wagashi with OMMA

Graft welcomes the amazing OMMA Matcha to Belfast for a unique experience that brings together the shared values of care and creative labour — connecting the culture of Northern Ireland with the traditions of Japanese tea farming. At the heart of both Graft and OMMA is a deep appreciation for handwork: the patience of creating something meaningful, the beauty of process, and the communities built through shared effort. Through tea, art and conversation, this event will explore how the philosophy of graft can connect people.

This is not a standard matcha workshop. Designed as an interactive seasonal art experience, the evening combines traditional tea preparation with hands-on creativity, and Japanese confectionery making.

What to Expect

Seasonal Matcha Art Session

Learn how to prepare ceremonial matcha through a guided whisking workshop, exploring the rituals and techniques behind Japanese tea culture. You’ll then use matcha itself as an artistic medium, creating seasonal drawings and designs in a relaxed, creative session.

Wagashi Making Experience

Create your own seasonal wagashi — traditional Japanese sweets made from sweet bean paste and carefully shaped by hand into artistic forms inspired by nature and the seasons. These delicate treats are traditionally enjoyed alongside matcha and reflect the artistry at the centre of Japanese tea culture.

Tea, Discussion & Sharing

Throughout the evening, we’ll explore the history of Japanese tea through the lens of labour, craftsmanship and community — reflecting on the parallels between Japanese tea farmers, Northern Irish resilience and the ethos behind both Graft and OMMA.
