Whiria te Tangata: Weaving People Together
About this Event
Whiria te Tangata: Weaving People Together
Events now start at 6pm. Please try to arrive by 5:45pm so we can get everyone into the event and start on time at 6pm.
Join us for a putiputi weaving workshop with local weaver Haley Te Rire. Share a moment to pause, breathe and create. Rooted in the traditions of raranga (Māori weaving) and shaped by her whakapapa as uri of Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau, this wānanga invites you to explore the beauty of weaving as both craft and connection.
Whether this is your first time weaving or a return to familiar rhythms, you’ll be welcomed into a calm, communal space. Leave with your own putiputi that carries intention, aroha, and the echo of those who came before us.
Please stay for a delicious plant-based dinner and dessert afterwards, included in your ticket!
Meet your host Haley:
Haley is a local weaver and uri of Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau who shares the art of raranga as a way of fostering connection, creativity, and wellbeing. Grounded in her whakapapa and guided by mātauranga Māori, Haley sees weaving as more than a craft, it is a way to slow down, reconnect, and honour the stories and knowledge carried through generations.
