Whidbey's 9 bat species hunt moths, beetles, mosquitoes, and other insects in our night skies. The 1,400+ species of bats are vital players in their native habitats worldwide, filling critical roles in insect control, plant pollination, and seed dispersal.
What makes bats unique and why are they so important? Sarah Schmidt, bat researcher, teacher and local author (Getting to the Water's Edge), will share adaptations and contributions of Whidbey Island bats using photos, video, and personal stories.
