About this Event

“Where The Light Shines Through” is a portal.
It is an escape.
It is an experiment.
It is the bathroom break in between fits of dancing.
Where you––hot and damp with sweat,
catch your breath as music leaks under the stall.
It is the breath.
In and out.
Where your mind clears, if only for a moment.
It is the ocean, 4 feet under, where you feel––
the sand under your toes, the current, the pressure on all sides.
It is optimism. Where technicolor overtakes greyscales.
It is hope. Where light overtakes darkness.
Rest here, if only for a moment.
Presence is the present.

Artist and Eaton House Resident Ua Hayes’ “Where the Light Shines Through” presents a vision: imperfection and beauty—a room she invites viewers to enter, to observe an immersive display of table lamps made by the artist.

These ceramic experiments, made in irregular shapes, colorful and moody, encourage onlookers to give grace to the misshapen and even find its charm.

Viewings by appointment only. Schedule viewing through RSVP.

ABOUT THE INSTALLATION:

“Where the Light Shines Through” is the culmination of Ua’s year long exploration of light sculptures and the lamp making process. The silhouettes of the ceramic lamp bases are inspired by the varied shapes and sizes of ‘baroque pearls.’ Baroque pearls occur when a pearl doesn’t have the environment to grow perfectly round. Ua embraces asymmetry and texture in her forms, for that reason, each lamp she creates is slightly different. The 12 featured lamps utilize a variety of surface design techniques from airbrushed color gradients to Korean Buncheong and Japanese Raku.

“Where the Light Shines Through” is entered through a single door. Upon entering, the viewer is in a dark room with mirrored walls and velvet curtains. A curated soundscape plays in the background. The mirrored walls reflect the lamps, their warm glowing light, and the viewer itself.
