This in-person, land-based professional learning session supports early years educators in using Indigenous children’s literature as a foundation for a meaningful, culturally grounded curriculum. Centered on The Adventures of Jay and Gizmo: Jay and Gizmo Learn About Pow Wows, participants will explore how storytelling can be expanded through Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee teachings, food sovereignty, and outdoor learning.
This session will begin with a book reading and cultural presentation by author Kristi White. Participants will engage in hands-on activities that demonstrate how story, land, and Indigenous knowledge can be woven into early learning environments for children ages 0-6. This session will support educators in deepening their understanding of Indigenous perspectives while gaining practical ideas for culturally responsive and play-based practice.
