Where now? Neurodevelopmental difference in children: alternative perspectives, potential solutions.

Across Scotland escalating numbers of children are being referred to specialist services seeking neurodevelopmental assessment. Those added to waiting lists will wait several years before accessing support and those deemed not to meet criteria for assessment can feel there is nowhere else to turn.

Together to Thrive was established in Dundee in response to this situation and to challenge the narrative that all children who present with characteristics typically associated with the neurodevelopmental conditions, ADHD and Autism require specialist assessment and diagnosis. Together to Thrive is based on a task sharing model and aims to deliver transformational change in how support is delivered to families. Together to Thrive trains and supports community practitioners to learn from CAMHS teams and aligned experts to enhance their knowledge, skills and confidence, equipping them to work alongside parents and carers to increase parental self-efficacy to address common parenting concerns, such as sleep, family relationships and sensory needs.

Please join us on 30th October to learn more about Together to Thrive and listen to our guest speakers, including, Dr Sami Timimi, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist and author, who writes from a critical psychiatry perspective on topics related to mental health. We will also be inviting you to collectively contemplate how to improve the mental health and well being of children and families through the development of new approaches that encourage communities and families to celebrate the unique temperaments of children and empower them to make the environmental adjustments that will support every individual child to thrive.
