Where Conversation Meets Culture With Dr. Kemi Doll

The evening is hosted at the award-winning restaurant, where Afrocentric food is thoughtfully curated by a family of cooks, creators, and entrprenuers on a mission to reclaim Black food traditions. The program will feature an inspiring conversation between Dr. Doll and Gina South, an engaging audience Q&A, and a book signing.

Dr. Kemi Doll is a Professor, physician, surgeon, double-board certified Gynecologic Oncologist and OB/GYN, health equity scientist, and transformation coach whose work is reshaping what’s possible for Black women in academia, healthcare, and research. She hosts a podcast called Your Unapologetic Career where she holds no punches in her quest to help develop the careers of women of color in academic medicine and public health. She is a prolific writter and dynamic speaker.

Part memoir, part survival guide, all truth. Dr. Kemi Doll’s debut book is a powerful blend of lived experience, scientific insight, and unflinching truth. Bringing equal reverence to the scalpel and the spirit, it calls out what has been silenced and offers a vision for what comes next. In A Terrible Strength, Dr. Doll equips women with the tools to recognize Womb Suffering - including Endometriosis, Fibroids, Heavy Bleeding, and Endometrial cancer, as well as guides women to be able to advocate for themselves and reclaim their health.

Gina South believes joy is hidden in the stories we hold. She delights in curating Black-centered spaces rooted in care, connection, and conversation. Curious and book-obsessed, she’s on a mission to help you find your next great read — the kind that just might change your life. You’ll find her walking the Philly streets asking strangers about their favorite books, coaching baseball, or curled up on her recliner – book and coffee in hand.
