2025: a time of great technological advancement, and a time when gender equality is "nearly" there - or is it? In the art world we are far from reaching equality.Let's review some recent statistics:
Women are paid 10 pence to £1 pound for artwork at auctions. Prices of paintings are lower if made by a woman and drop further if the painting is signed by said painter.
National gallery in London holds 2300 artworks. 20 paintings are by female artists and only four are on display. (From: Las invisibles, Porque el Museo del Prado ignora a las mujeres? By Peio H. Riano.)
Yet art schools in the UK and North America a dominated by women.
England: 65% of art students are women.
USA: 70% of fine art undergraduate degrees are attained by women.

Why does it matter? Because art is everywhere and how we relate to art shapes women's real life experiences.
In this talk, artist and educator Paulina Ree will discuss the importance of women artists, through history and up to today. Ree will also incorporate books to start understanding more about women in art and the power of looking at women in art as depicted by men.
Paulina Ree is an Oslo-based painter, educator, curator, and researcher.
Ree is a member of BKA and NBK, both Norwegian organizations for Professional Visual Artists.
Ree’s interest in female artists from history, as well as on understanding the role of gender inequality and imbalance in the art world is something that she is passionate about. Ree is an activist for equality and inclusion of women artists.
The ticket price of 100 NOK may be used on the day as credit toward any book purchase.
Tickets cannot be refunded but you may resell or give away your ticket if the original purchaser cannot attend.
