Synopsis

When Silence Is Broken
A True Story by Le'Quasha Harden
Written, Directed, and Produced by Evelyn Jones Reed

Executive Producer Le'Quasha Harden

Inspired by true events, When Silence Is Broken is a powerful and emotionally charged stage play about family secrets, generational trauma, faith, forgiveness, and the courage to confront the truth.

After serving time in county J*il, Maya Carter is determined to rebuild her life. What begins as a journey toward freedom takes an unexpected turn when she receives a letter from her grandmother, Mae Lois, shortly before her death. The letter reveals painful truths that have been buried for decades—truths involving abuse, fear, shame, and the devastating silence that fractured an entire family.

As Maya pieces together her family's history, she discovers that her mother was a victim long before she became a mother herself. Through flashbacks, difficult conversations, and moments of unexpected grace, Maya begins to understand the wounds that shaped the women who came before her. What she once viewed as abandonment is revealed to be a story of survival.

Inside the J*il, Maya finds healing through an unlikely sisterhood of women who challenge, encourage, and uplift one another. Guided by the wisdom of Ms. Carrie, the friendship of Keisha and Renee, and the powerful voice of Tausha, Maya learns that freedom is more than walking out of a J*il cell—it is breaking free from the pain, shame, and secrets that have held generations captive.

Filled with heartfelt drama, moments of laughter, powerful music, and a message of hope, When Silence Is Broken reminds audiences that healing begins when truth is spoken, grace is extended, and silence no longer has the final word.

This unforgettable production is a testimony to resilience, faith, and the belief that no matter what has happened in your past, your future can still be filled with purpose, healing, and promise.
