On May 7, 2022, Justin's life changed forever. While he was stopped on his motorcycle in a left-turn lane, a car ran a red light, turned short and struck him head-on. By the grace of God, Justin survived the horrific accident, but his journey was just beginning. He was life flighted to Metro Hospital, where he spent the next two months in a coma undergoing multiple surgeries, including the removal of one-third of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain.
The Unthinkable Betrayal
As if the physical and emotional trauma of the accident wasn't enough, Justin faced unimaginable betrayal. Just a month after the accident, his wife left him. On their one-year anniversary, she filed for divorce, taking advantage of his vulnerable state. She sold his belongings, leaving him in a comatose state in an ICU nursing facility with only three bags of clothing—literally.
This is not the first time Justin has faced betrayal. The funds raised during his first benefit were squandered by his ex-wife, who used the money to go on vacation with Justin's so-called "best friend." She later had a child with this man and even tried to claim it was Justin's in an attempt to gain more money from his modest state assistance.
A Mother's Love and the Struggle for Recovery
It took Justin's mother six long months to gain guardianship of her son. Since November 2023, she has been caring for him at home, devoted to his daily needs. Justin's recovery is ongoing—he cannot walk and his limbs are still contracted, but he is able to partially communicate and shows signs of improvement each week.
However, Justin's current situation is dire. His only means of transportation is on a gurney with an ambulance service. The scheduling and costs are overwhelming, often leading to Justin being picked up 2-3 hours early and returned home 3-4 hours after his appointments. With part of his skull still missing, he needs a safer, more reliable means of transportation.
