Description:
Want to make a fairy house but don’t throw? This class is for students who only hand-build or may be new and have only basic skills. The instructor will provide a basic form for you to finish by decorating with sprigs, adding architectural elements such as doors, windows, shingles, eves, and swirls that give it personality and whimsical charm. We will also discuss glazing and underglazing techniques for you to try after bisque firing.
Instructor Bio:
Jeff Turner is a Texas native and a graduate of Flour Bluff High School, received a bachelor’s degree in geology from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and a master’s degree in geology from Baylor University. While filing out his degree plan, he discovered that a fine arts course was required to graduate and that’s where Jeff discovered his passion for ceramics. One class turned into several more and into a summer job before graduate school, turning out pots for school funds. Life put a hold on ceramics for nearly 30 years, and a career change brought him back to experiencing clay again. Jeff mostly produces functional ceramics on the wheel but is constantly exploring ways to push wheel throwing in whimsical and unexpected directions usually reserved for hand building or fusing thrown and hand building techniques. Jeff is a two-time winner of Best of Show at the Art Center Ceramics Show and teaches both wheel and hand building classes at the Art Center Corpus Christi.
