This teen pottery Summer Camp will provide an introduction to creating works on the potter’s wheel. Students will learn to make functional forms to use every day as well as artistic pieces that will be thrown and then altered. Glazing techniques and surface design will also be covered. No experience with clay is necessary, so just bring your imagination!
WHAT TO BRING: Items you will want to bring to class include a hand towel, a small 1-gallon pail, and a small set of pottery tools (including a needle tool, cut-off wire, wood rib, metal rib, sponge, and a trimming tool). These are available at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Jack Richeson, online, etc for $10.00 or less. If you have other clay working tools, feel free to bring those as well. Make sure your name is on them. Remember to wear clothes suitable for working with clay, and to leave all jewelry (rings, watches, bracelets, etc.) at home.
The class will be using low-fire clay and glaze, both will be supplied. TMA members receive 10% off all registrations.
Summer Camps at TMA are one week, Monday – Friday, all led by local professional artists.

Craig Clifford | Art Educator
Craig is an Associate Professor of Art at UWO where he has been teaching ceramics for the last thirteen years. He has also taught ceramics and art at California State University Long Beach, USC, Mississippi Valley State University. He exhibits his work nationally and internationally and has been included in the 2007 and 2009 World Ceramic Biennial in South Korea as well as, Ceramic Top 40, and is a past artist in residence at The Archie Bray Foundation, in Helena Montana and c.r.e.t.a. Rome, in Rome Italy. He is currently in the studio working for a number of group and solo exhibitions.
