About this Event

Join us for What's Behind The Wall? at Founders Hall Museum, a free spring Open House event

Come behind the 10-foot Girard College wall for an afternoon of exploration, learning, reflection, and fun! The event features a range of activities, including chess tournaments, sunset yoga, and a drum circle. Special mini-tours led by University of the Arts students will occur throughout the day, focusing on different themes in the museum, and the galleries will be open for self-guided visits all afternoon.

Quiet rooms and drop-in activity spaces make the event space open to everyone!

Times and activites may be subject to change. This event is hosted by MA Museum Studies students from the University of the Arts, in conjunction with Founder’s Hall Museum and the Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia, with special support from community partners.

Before you go
  • This open house event is FREE, and open to everyone. Advance registration is helpful for us, but walk-in visitors are very welcome.
  • Founder's Hall is a hisoric building, constructed in 1848. All activities except for the museum tours are on the first floor, which is wheelchair accesisble. The museum is located on the second floor and requires climbing a flight of stairs to view.
  • Because Girard College is an active school, you may need to quickly check in with security when arriving on campus.
  • Parking is available for free on-site; we are also accessible by several bus lines and are a half-mile walk from the Girard Avenue subway stop.

About Founder's Hall

Housed in a magnificent Greek Revival landmark, the Founder’s Hall Museum offers a glimpse into the complex life of Stephen Girard, America’s first multi-millionaire, and illuminates the legacy of a school which he founded, which has fascinated Philadelphia visitors since the 19th century, became the focus of a key Northern civil rights case in the 20th century, and continues to educate youth today.
