WHAT SLEEPS BENEATH & SUBCINEMA Present THE HEAD
About this Event
Join SUBCINEMA and WHAT SLEEPS BENEATH for a special screening of the West German 1959 chiller THE HEAD (Die Nackte und der Satan, lit. "The Naked Woman and Satan").
Directed by Victor Trivas and photographed by Georg Krause (PATHS OF GLORY), this sci-fi horror was banned in Finland and sparked protests and police intervention in screenings in Austria. Michel Simon stars as Dr. Abel, whose new serum can keep a dog's disembodied head alive. When Abel suffers a fatal heart attack, his sinister assistant uses the formula to preserve the doctor's own severed head long enough to help transplant the head of a hunchbacked nurse onto the body of an exotic dancer.
Long absent from the English-language market, THE HEAD has been called both a "thriller of the lowest quality" and an "unusually large success." We call it a real...head-turner.
