Post-Graduate Seminars 2024-25Belief is an important folk psychological concept: we use it all the time in every day life. But its place in psychological science is still uncertain and undertheorised. In this talk, I will provide some background to the debates in psychological and cognitive science about belief, pitch a theory of belief, and muse about some implications for religion.
The Revd Dr Jonathan Jong is Rector of Cocking with West Lavington, Bepton, and Heyshott in the Diocese of Chichester. He is also Associate Member at the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford, and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Bristol Medical School. His research has mainly focussed on the psychology of religion. He has published over 70 articles in psychology, philosophy, and theology. His latest book if Experimenting with Religion (OUP, 2023). The Nature of Belief (edited with Eric Schwitzgebel) will be published by OUP in 2025.
This event will also be on zoom
