Whales Festival Community Mural Celebration

A mural painted by the community at the annual Celebration of the Whales Festival will be unveiled and on full display at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum.

The Ventura County Harbor Department collaborated with the Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) earlier in the year to have the mural painted by the community as part of the whales festival. The mural was designed by Elisa Torres, a member of OPAC's Art Studio, a program that provides art classes for all ages.

After the whales festival, OPAC staff put the finishing touches on the mural so it can now be put on full display outdoors. The mural will be showcased at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum throughout the summer.

At the unveiling ceremony, scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Maritime Museum, attendees will be invited to participate in an interactive art exercise, treated to hors d'oeuvres, and meet Elisa Torres.
