We’re delighted to announce that Whale Tales 2025 is heading to Belfast this November!

This much-loved event brings together IWDG members and anyone interested in whales, dolphins, and porpoises around Ireland for a weekend of shared stories, learning, and connection.

And this year, we’re kicking things off with an added bonus for those travelling that bit further… Join Pádraig Whooley, IWDG Sightings Officer in Portrush for a special one-day cetacean identification workshop before the main Whale Tales weekend begins.

Dive into the fascinating world of whales, dolphins, and porpoises with this one-day identification course at Portrush Coastal Zone.

Whether you’re an environmental recorder, a wildlife enthusiast, or simply curious about our marine life, this workshop will equip you with the skills to spot, identify, and understand the incredible cetacean species found around the Island of Ireland.

We’ll kick things off with an informal evening of stories from the water. It’s a great way to meet others, share experiences, and get into the Whale Tales spirit.

Saturday, November 8 – Members-Only Day
W5 at Titanic Quarter
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Saturday is dedicated to our members, with a full day of talks, updates, and conversations. We’ll hear from IWDG officers, reflect on our work across the island, and enjoy thought-provoking sessions from guest speakers covering a range of marine-related topics.

Expect plenty of opportunities to engage, ask questions, and connect with others who share your interest in Ireland’s marine life. Lunch and light refreshments are included.

Sunday, November 9 – A Gentle Close
We’ll keep things light and flexible on Sunday with a relaxed start to the day and an optional chance to come together before everyone heads off. A nice way to reflect and wind down after the weekend.

Whether you’re a long-time member or new to the group, save the dates – November 7–9 – and join us for a weekend of stories, learning, and celebration in Belfast.

Event Costs:

1. IWDG Members Registration (€25): Includes Saturday venue, a light lunch, and refreshments (AM & PM).
2. IWDG Non- Members Registration(€70): Includes all the above, plus a one year IWDG membership. BUT we encourage you to purchase a membership first to avail of the discounted members' registration.
