Learn how to transform wool into sculptural form, led by accomplished costume maker and multidisciplinary artist Ritta Koleva
About this Event

Create a beautiful sculptural felted pouch using the traditional technique of wet felting over a resist template. In this immersive five-hour workshop, you'll learn how to transform soft wool into a seamless, durable three-dimensional form while exploring the sculptural possibilities of felt. Along the way, you'll discover the fundamentals of wet felting, including fibre layout, shrinkage, shaping, and finishing techniques. You will learn how to create a dense, sturdy fabric suitable for bags, hats, jewellery, vessels, footwear, upholstery, and other sculptural objects. Participants are welcome to personalize their work by incorporating optional open-weave fabric scraps or wool and silk yarns for added texture and surface detail. This workshop is beginner-friendly and open to all skill levels. As wet felting is a hands-on, physical process, participants should be comfortable with several hours of active making. A $20 materials fee includes high-quality wool roving and wool batting. Class size is limited to ensure plenty of individual guidance.
