You may have heard of hydro turbines, but are you curious to learn how our rivers actually generate electricity?
About this Event

Tour the West Springfield Hydroelectric Project on the Westfield River to learn more. Bob King, co-owner of the Project, will show us how hydroelectricity is generated and discuss how hydropower fits into today’s electric market. He’ll also explain why the facility chose to get certified by the Low Impact Hydropower Institute and what that means. Connecticut River Conservancy will discuss impacts of hydropower on our rivers and fish, the pros and cons of this ‘green’ energy, and how CRC works to balance river use with river protection. We’ll also get to see how migrating fish pass upstream of this dam.

Note: This tour requires a considerable amount of walking and stairs. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate those with mobility concerns.
