Need a thrilling and uplifting West Country break - how about this? Our usual blend of steamy nostalgia is combined with, scenic, nautical and, highlight, aeronautical experiences. Heavens above, you’ll be left dizzy from this scintillating itinerary!
Outline Itinerary
Friday
Friday We are going to meet at Bristol Temple Meads, get rid of our luggage, and head straight to the Bristol Harbour district.
Here we will visit the S.S. Great Britain – the country’s first steel hulled ship, that broke record after record.
After this, an informative cruise around the harbour and out onto the Avon will complete our first afternoon.
Saturday
A day of scenery starts with the awesome Cheddar Gorge as we make our way to the inimitable Somerset & Dorset Railway for a steam train ride.
More steam later as we chug alongside the Avon on the Avon Valley Railway.
Now for something very special, perhaps the highlight of this holiday!
We have managed to arrange, at great expense, helicopter rides from a helicopter museum near Weston-Super-Mare.
You will be taken up for a breath-taking flight that takes in views of the Severn Estuary and Weston-Super-Mare itself - WOW!
Sunday
You’re certain to be flying high from yesterday so let’s continue the fun! Over the Severn we go and into the Dean Forest.
The local railway takes us through the woods to Parkend and down to Lydney – it’s a charming line.
After allowing time to lunch in Coleford we visit the Perrygrove Railway for more steamy fun before tracking back to base via the delightfully scenic Wye Valley and a stop at Tintern Abbey.
Monday
Last, but by no means least, we have a very local attraction to keep you absorbed this morning. Just down the road is Aerospace Bristol.
The project is run by the Bristol Aero Collection Trust and houses a varied collection of exhibits, including Concorde Alpha Foxtrot, the final Concorde to be built and the last to fly.
Homeward bound journeys commence from Bristol Temple Meads early afternoon.
Our Hotel
Located outside of Bristol this is a fine hotel. All rooms are spacious (no singles!), well appointed, and set over two floors around a central garden. There is a gym, swimming pool, bar, restaurant and, best of all, super friendly staff - you are guaranteed a relaxing stay.
