***NOTE*** Space is limited. Please reserve a free ticket for this event to secure your spot! Join the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) for a free public tour of the wastewater treatment plant in Duluth on Thursday, July 13 beginning at 2 p.m. The 90-minute tour is being offered in conjunction with other local events to celebrate Lake Superior Day. Visitors must be 10 years old or older in order to participate.
Visitors on the wastewater treatment tour will have the opportunity to learn about the biological process that returns cleaned water to the St. Louis River (and ultimately to Lake Superior). The tour will allow visitors a first-hand look at the equipment used in operations.
The WLSSD Wastewater Plant is the second-largest wastewater treatment facility in Minnesota. It treats an average of 38 million gallons of wastewater per day, serving 16 communities over a 530-square-mile region.
• Attendees must be 10+ years old. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
• The Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour is indoor/outdoor and moderately strenuous, including many stairs and uneven surfaces.
• All participants are required to wear closed-toe shoes (flat soles are strongly recommended) and the safety equipment (safety glasses and hard hats) provided by WLSSD.
• Dress for the weather! WLSSD’s sites are exposed to the river and can be quite chilly.
• Space is limited and registration is required. If you can no longer attend, kindly cancel your registration to open your spot to others.
