Western Heritage Award honorees Bob and Johnie Terry have worked in the film industry since 2009, producing original Western-based productions and preserving and hosting classic Western films. In 2017, they started producing “The Forsaken Westerns," a TV series dedicated to rescuing and broadcasting rare unsold Western TV show pilots, anthology series Western episodes, and Western series episodes and movies. They have transferred many from 8mm and 16mm films, some of which were thought to have been lost forever.The Terrys are very dedicated to the preservation of the American West. They have worked on the Red Steagall Is Somewhere West of Wall Street television show since 2020. Bob has been a director, cinematographer and editor, and Johnie has been an assistant director, cinematographer and closed captions creator for the show.
They are also serious collectors of Western artifacts and antiques. Bob grew up living and working on several small ranches in Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and British Columbia. Johnie grew up in rural north Texas. They perform Western music and own a Western toy manufacturing company. They live on several acres in north Texas, have been married since 1988 and have three children and one granddaughter.
Their award-winning documentary, Playing Cowboy, highlights the history of Western toys and the 3-month exhibition of hundreds of toys from the Terry family collection that were placed on exhibit in the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
