About this Event
YEMP invites you to an exclusive out of hours opening of Leeds University Library Galleries. Based in the Parkinson Building, the galleries are just a short walk from Leeds city centre, and are free and open to all. Then we'll head to the pub!
Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery
History buff or book worm? This is the Gallery for you! With everything from material written by the Brontës to medieval manuscripts, and even a Babylonian clay tablet that is over 2500 years old, you can really immerse yourself in the past and discover something new.
Also on display is the exhibition The Cottingley Fairies: A Study in Deception. Delve into the secrets behind the greatest hoax of the twentieth century, and discover how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author behind the detective mastermind Sherlock Holmes, was fooled by fake fairies.
The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery
Art connoisseur or lover of beautiful things? This art gallery will give you your cultural fix. With stunning examples of European and British paintings, drawings, and prints from the 17th century to the present day on display, you can immerse yourself in this oasis of calm and take a mindful moment away from the bustle of life.
The exhibition Seeing Stars is also on display until the end of July. See outer space through a different lens and discover new contemporary artists. This exhibition explores our lasting fascination with the cosmos by shining a light on artists who use and challenge the newest technologies for space imaging in their art practice.
