About this Event

Join us Sunday, June 13th from 4:00pm-5:30pm at the Dresher Ensemble Studio for an afternoon of live music from two essential Bay Area voices in piano jazz, Tammy Hall and Glen Pearson. With Leon Joyce Jr. on drums and Gary Brown on bass, the quartet will present some of their original compositions alongside the rich repertoire of Mary Lou Williams and Duke Ellington.

Tammy Hall is a pianist, organist, composer, arranger and musical director, who began playing piano at age 4 and was accompanying her church choir by age 7 and organist/pianist for two churches by age 9 until graduation from high school (The Hockaday School). After attending Mills College in Oakland, California for two years Tammy embarked upon pursuing a "jazz" life. Tammy has since gone on to work with many vocalists and award winning performers, including Linda Tillery, Barbara Dane, Holly Near, Gina Breedlove, Darlene Love, Melba Moore, Connie Champagne, Mary Wilson, and Etta Jones. She has also worked with bandleaders Houston Person, David 'Fathead' Newman, Ellen Seeling and the Montclair Women's Big Band and Regina Carter. In 2015, Tammy celebrates 50 years of playing the piano, performances at San Jose, Fillmore and SFJazz festivals, as well as the distinct honor of performing with Alive! and Holly Near at the 40th annual Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival.

Glen Pearson is both a noted pianist and renowned educator. He began studying piano at age six and was playing professionally by age fifteen. He has appeared on stage, television, and recordings with such notables as Regina Belle, Jimmy Scott, Diane Reeves, Marlena Shaw, Bobby Hutcherson, Delfeayo Marsalis, and Will Downing, and is currently the pianist for the Count Basie Orchestra. . Mr. Pearson served for eleven years as the Musical/Band Director for the World Renowned Boy’s Choir of Harlem, and is the current head of the Music department at the College of Alameda.
