We're excited to welcome visiting teachers from Capoeira Aruanda Sydney and Newcastle for a special afternoon of workshops. These 45-minute sessions are designed for anyone with an interest in movement, martial arts, or music who want to deepen their practice, explore new ideas, and play together.
🪘West African Drumming with Professor Calango (1:30-2:15pm)
Get ready to feel the groove. In this hands-on session, Professor Calango will guide you through the foundations of West African drumming and how these rhythms connect with Capoeira’s musical heart.
You’ll learn core patterns, build confidence with call-and-response, and explore how rhythm transforms the energy of a Capoeira roda. No drumming experience needed, just a willingness to jump in, listen deeply, and play. BYO Djembe or borrow one of ours!
🤸🏽♂️ Connecting Contemporary Capoeira Sequences with Professor Ghana (2:30pm - 3:15pm)
Ghana brings his signature clarity and creativity to this workshop focused on stitching your movements together with intention. You’ll break down short sequences, explore how to link attacks, escapes and transitions, and learn how to adapt combinations to different rhythms and partners.
Expect practical drills, controlled play, and a supportive vibe that helps you refine your style whether you’re a long-time player or finding your feet again.
🌊 Capoeira Flow Games with Professora Serenata and Professor Quebra (3:30pm - 4:15pm)
Serenata and Quebra team up for a lively, playful workshop built around game-based learning that will boost your flow, spatial awareness, and improvisation. You’ll work through solo and partner exercises that encourage responsiveness, creativity, and smooth transitions. The stuff that makes the jogo (game) feel alive!
This session is perfect if you want to open up your game, get into your body, and enjoy the playfulness of human connection.
Register for one, two or all three workshops via Humantix at the link below.
