We're welcoming LGBTQ+ artists and audiences to help shape the future of our WERK network and programme. This event is an opportunity to have your say.
We’re hosting a relaxed session to figure things out together. Zero pressure to talk if you’d rather listen or contribute in writing and all creative disciplines are welcome.
What will happen
• We’ll chat and get to know each other
• You’ll share what you’d actually find useful to flourish as an artist
Event information
The Old Courts is home to a brilliant, proudly queer creative community. We've supported LGBTQ+ artists onstage, in development, and beyond. We're passionate about continuing our journey in championing the LGBTQ+ community through arts and culture and we need your help shape our next steps. Our network has reached a crossroads, and this is the moment to ask you what comes next.
We want LGBTQ+ artists in Greater Manchester to shape the future of our WERK LGBTQ+ Artist Network directly. Whether that means:
• Regular meet-ups and a supportive creative family
• Guest speakers, workshops and career skills
• More artist development and paid opportunities
• Co-producing events and queer joy in public
• Having a say in how culture happens in Wigan
• Some or all the above and some new ideas
As we see many stay quiet or pull back support of the LGBTQ+ community we want to amp it up! This is about building something led by the LGBTQ+ community. We believe representation matters and that seeing yourself in local arts and culture is vital for unlocking creative potential, enriching culture and improving wellbeing.
We want a network that:
• Above all feels welcoming and safe
• Platforms and provides opportunities for LGBTQ+ creatives
• Collectively amplifies the voice of the community
• Champion and celebrate each others work
