About this Event
Step into the garden with “We’re Out Of Oat Milk, Baby” and celebrate the solstice with WOOOMB band in a cozy evening of music and whimsy. This dynamic multidisciplinary jam band explores resistance, joys in the earth, and cultivating community threads. Witness the playful nature and experimental elements as WOOMB tends to the garden of coexistence and creation. ✨ Come join in singing and dancing with us ✨ We can’t wait to spend the evening with you, hold on to your hats!
alyssa amarshi (they/she) is a queer, neurodivergent, anticapitalist dance and interdisciplinary artist of Indo-Tanzanian and Sufi lineages weaving through Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh, and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm lands. they are a facilitator, mover, and forever learner who loves extending their web of relations through dance cyphers at Robson Square, choreographing for stage, learning African Diasporic and Street Dances (hip hop/dancehall/popping), communing with lichen, eating yummy vegan treats, jamming with loved ones especially with their partner Thelonious, and using experimental play and expression as a form of resistance and resilience. alyssa hopes their artistry can be a reminder of our deep interconnectedness, an inspiration towards building a world of tangible solidarity and care, and a spell towards collective liberation.
Bryn Davies is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and cat dad. He is inspired by various art forms and musical genres, and enjoys blending together world music elements and modern electronic productions to create fresh sounds. He continues to expand his practice as a part of multiple music groups and collaborative projects; you can find him at Bonzo Studio, often with his production buddy, Bonzo (his cat).
Thelonious Lee Dexter is a multi-dimensional artist, musician, performer, co-creator and conspirator, grateful to be born and raised on these unceded lands of big leaf maple and red cedars. Thelo often plays between the cracks of their own mixed ancestral identity and questioning belonging and myth-making amidst the fronds of post-certain-modernity and on-growing cosmic revolution. They have performed locally with psychedelic hip-hop group Off Topic (2018-2022), are part of the eco-art collective ‘earthen bodies’ with partner Alyssa Amarshi, and they are excited to invite you all to groove and grow within the WOOOMB garden!
Franz Seachel (she/they) is a multidisciplinary storyteller who weaves poetics playfully in the liminal space between genres. They are the founder/ owner of Enabling Arts, a cozy arts retail venue, and the founder of the nonprofit, Enable: Arts Society. She believes art makes living bearable and is doing their best to put more colour into the world, both in the sense of brightening up the mundane with creation, as well as in their mission to uplift the truths of marginalized identities. Franz hopes your dreams are alive and well; they can’t wait to meet you in the spaces of creative coexistence.
Anjalica Solomon is your favourite local genderfluid-bird-watching-heart-eyed-astro-queer. Anjalica Solomon's poems and performances offer robust visions of hope, tenacity, and love. Their debut poetry collection "Apocalypse Joy" is out NOW with Write Bloody North Publishing, and their album "Kissing the Flowers Open" can be heard on all streaming platforms.
Jean Muco is a multidisciplinary percussionist from Burundi, East Africa, transplanted to so-called Vancouver. Explorer of sound, the interplay of joy in the unbound spirit, and how Rhythm touches the body and soul through Improvisational vibrations.
