Nature at McMaster and the Canadian Wildlife Federation presents a community restauration event at Wentworth Sports Complex!
About this Event

Nature at McMaster and the Canadian Wildlife Federation are delighted to invite you to our "Green Revival" event on June 17th, at the Wentworth Sports Complex from 10 am to 1 pm. We've set an ambitious goal to tackle invasive species, plant native trees, and foster the creation of a vibrant pollinator garden, and we're calling upon you to lend a hand!

Starting at 10 am, we will have a short land acknowledgement and talk on the indigenous wisdom of plants by R.E.A.L. Education.

Our local ecosystems are under threat from invasive plant species that disrupt habitats and outcompete our native flora, negatively impacting wildlife. That's why we're starting our event with a concerted effort to remove these invasive plants. Guided by our knowledgeable team, you'll learn how to identify and safely remove these disruptive species, making a tangible difference in preserving our local biodiversity.

Next, we'll dive into the exciting work of planting native trees. These trees are more than just beautiful greenery – they're the lifeblood of our ecosystems, providing essential food and shelter for a variety of species and improving air and water quality. This hands-on activity offers a unique opportunity to learn more about our native species and to see the immediate impact of your efforts.

The final, and perhaps most exciting part of our day, involves establishing a pollinator garden as part of the Canadian Wildlife Federation's ongoing volunteer work. Pollinator gardens play a vital role in supporting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators by providing them with the necessary habitat and food resources. This effort not only enhances our local biodiversity but also contributes to the global push to combat pollinator decline.

We finish the day with a pizza lunch

This event is open to everyone - no prior experience is needed, just a love for nature and a readiness to make a difference. Join our green revival to restore and beautify our local ecosystems. Remember to dress for the weather and bring a reusable water bottle!

Come and join us in this combined effort to rejuvenate our environment, making it a healthier and more vibrant place for all species that call it home! We look forward to seeing you there.
