Wellness Week 2023: Shades of Cinema Gathering

"Soul Food" is a heartfelt and poignant drama that tells the story of the tight-knit Joseph family, whose Sunday dinners serve as a lifeline for their bond. Led by the family matriarch, Big Mama, played by Irma P. Hall, the film beautifully explores the central role of black women in nurturing and sustaining their families through love, resilience, and the sharing of meals.

After watching the film we will delve into an engaging discussion on how "Soul Food" brilliantly highlights the Black Matriarchy. We will explore the various themes portrayed in the film, including the strength and wisdom of Black mothers, the importance of intergenerational connections, and the ways in which food becomes a powerful symbol of love and heritage.

In celebration of the Juneteenth Holiday, is honored to offer a week of holistic health activities for the local Black community. The week will include workshops and activities that promote physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health & well-being.

This year's theme is the "Black Matriarchy" - and we'll explore the ways in which Black women have contributed and continue to shape the Black community and the greater world at large.
