Emotional Regulation: Reacting vs. Responding

In this foundational workshop we will explore the concept of emotional regulation and gain skills to manage the activation and intensity of our feelings. You will be taught to identify the sensations that arise in your body when you are experiencing an emotion and control the intensity of emotion through various exercises. We will then apply these concepts to the stage as we learn to be more present in our scene work, ultimately making our partner look good and building stronger scenes in the process. This workshop aims to help you gain greater bodily awareness, mindfulness, and awareness of thought processes.
Participants will be required to fill out a well-being questionnaire prior to class registration.
May 8th 6:30p - 9:30p

In collaboration with Push Comedy Theater’s Community & Well-Being Program and Watermark Psychological Services, the IMPROV-ing Emotional Wellness Program aspires to support our community in their individual journeys with increased comedy skills, emotionally healthy communication skills, and overall personal growth. This program is for individuals seeking to increase emotional and self awareness, nurture effective communication skills, and develop deeper connection with others. Participants experience these growth points through the dynamic adventure that the intersection between improvisational comedy and mental healthcare can safely provide. Classes will be facilitated by both an improvisation teacher and a mental health professional.
