About this Event
On Saturday, September 21 at 1:30 pm, Alisa Dupuy of The Ladies of History will be returning to Rockingham, presenting a first-person portrayal, this time of Martha Washington. This program will be held in the Dutch barn with light refreshments to follow.
Martha Dandridge Custis Washington married George Washington as a wealthy widow of 27 with two small children. She helped run Mount Vernon and joined the General every winter of the Revolutionary War, accompanying him during his stay at Rockingham in later 1783. She was the first First Lady (though not called that at the time) and, despite not being one to enjoy public life, a gracious hostess, known to one and all for being kind, capable and intelligent.
The event is free, but donations to Rockingham are always welcome! This event is sponsored by the Rockingham Association who will have the Museum Store open before and after the program. Rockingham is located on Rte. 603 (Laurel Ave./Kingston-Rocky Hill Rd.), one mile north of Rte. 27 in Kingston and one mile south of Rte. 518 in Rocky Hill. Visit the website, www.rockingham.net for further information about the site.
