Continue our 35th Anniversary Welcome to the Watershed Ridge to Reef journey with a special evening hike exploring the fascinating world of bats!
Join local bat expert, naturalist, and educator, Don Endicott, as we discover some of the remarkable nighttime wildlife found throughout our region.
Bats are incredible creatures, using specialized flight and echolocation skills to navigate after dark. They also play important roles in ecosystems around the world, from controlling insect populations to pollinating plants and dispersing seeds. San Diego County is home to nearly half of the bat species found in the United States!
Don will begin the evening with a short presentation and a closer look at preserved bat specimens, before we head out on the trail around dusk. Along the way, we’ll learn more about our local bats and explore the use of acoustic monitoring equipment to listen for their ultrasonic calls.
Come experience a different side of the watershed as we celebrate 35 years of protecting the lands, waterways, wildlife, and communities that make this region so special.
