About this Event
Three phenomenal authors join us for an exploration of Scotland’s dark and fascinating history of witch trials through the lens of historical fiction and gothic storytelling.
Witches have long held a place of fear and fascination in Scotland, and we are joined by three authors whose novels have tapped into and explored that in powerful fashion. Philip Paris explored the end of the witch trials in Waterstones Scottish Book of the Year 2024 The Last Witch of Scotland, Anna Caig's novel focuses on witching in the islands in The Wise Witch of Orkney, while Mairi Kidd has turned both factual and fictional spotlights onto the topic in We Are All Witches and her forthcoming novel Newes of Witches.
Together the three will discuss the enduring legacy of the witch trials and the figure of the witch in Scotland, the ways they use history and folklore to inspire their fiction, and the draw of gothic and historical fiction, before signing copies of their books.
