WELCOME TO THE CHOIR RIOT (Riot the Third)
About this Event
If you haven’t been to a Choir Riot yet, now’s your chance! This is a no commitment choir. What does that even mean? No schedule, no rehearsals, no fancy binders, no robes. But yes to gathering for a few hours, to learn some basics about being in a Choir or Chorus and yes, to learning some harmonies. We practice, practice, practice, then we performonly for ourselves, as selfish as that sounds. And if you experience it once, you’ll know how great it feels to be a part of the music. We keep the prices at $5.00 a ticket, we start early so we finish early. We also wind up laughing a lot, and leave the place feeling a lot lighter that we did when we walked in.
Who are We? We are two Sudbury musicians – Anita Ansamaa vocal directs and Jennifer Holub also directs while accompanying the group on guitar. Anita and Jennifer are long-time Sudbury musicians and members of the 11-piece soul band the Northern Memphis Revival. We are lucky enough to be able to perform for others and feel how amazing it is, when the rest of the world goes away and you share a heartbeat. So, we want to help our audience clear some of the world away, and share this feeling.
We hope to give our audience some much needed space, be it physical or mental, and thanks to our partners at Knox Hall, to build for our community a place to come together for a purpose: to share a heartbeat with others. Then hopefully, for a few minutes, we’ll be able unleash our voices, and shake the world off for a little while.
We have also partnered with The Burton Family Foundation and Knox Hall to cover the cost of tickets not-for-profit and charitable organizations who support youth. That’s right, to cover the cost of the tickets. “BFF is excited to offer this opportunity to organizations that support youth in our community. This initiative opens the door to a meaningful artistic experience and a vibrant community event—one that can inspire a lasting connection to the arts or spark a new creative outlet for young people.” Ashley Burton Rantala, BFF Executive Director
A focus on Canadian songwriters. Choir Riot is maintaining its Canadiana theme with its song selection for the third event on June 27th. “Ahead By a Century” by the Tragically Hip. We asked our “Choir Rioters” what they would like to sing. Of the amazing suggestions we received, we chose your first request to be what has become a sacred Canadian anthem of sorts. We know our experienced Choir Rioters are gonna love it, and it might just broaden our community of “Rioters”.
