About this Event

Welcome to Snowtown!

Join Traci Picard and Kate Wells, members of the Snowtown Research Team, on a walk through this long-lost 19th-century neighborhood which once stood at the head of the Providence Cove. A diverse place of laborers and boarding-houses, entrepreneurs and immigrants, Snowtown is often remembered as a site of disorder…if it is remembered at all. But for many people, for about a century…it was home. The walk will end with libations for those who would like to continue the conversation about Snowtown and Providence’s lost neighborhoods.

Traci Picard is a public historian and researcher from Providence. She works as a research assistant at Brown University and on other community research projects.

Kate Wells is the Curator of Rhode Island Collections at Providence Public Library where she collects, preserves and provides access to historic materials and community archives that reflect local history.
