SATURDAY 18th July 2026
Join Steamrail Victoria and the Victorian Goldfields Railway in celebrating the restoration of steam locomotive K160.
The Steamrail Board invites Steamrail and VGR members to travel behind K160 from Southern Cross Station to Geelong and return.
Departing Southern Cross Station at 10:44am we will run via the original mainline between Melbourne and Geelong. Whistling past K160's restoration home at Newport Workshops, we will stop at Paisley and Manor for short inspection stops as part of the running-in of the locomotive.
Enjoy the journey alongside fellow members and volunteers as you relax in our W, E or K type carriages with the windows open, listening to the locomotive. Our open-air viewing van will be on the train for all passengers to enjoy throughout the journey. Our on-train facilities include a kiosk which stocks a wide range of light refreshments, snacks and hot & cold drinks. A licensed bar will also be operating, serving a range of beers, wines and spirits. A range of souvenirs will also be able for purchase on board.
Arriving into Geelong at 12:26pm, there will be plenty of time for lunch while the engine is being serviced by our volunteers at its former home (Geelong Loco Depot).
It is advised to book ahead for lunch as there may be limited availability at local venues.
Departing Geelong at 3:18pm, the train will again make inspection stops, this time at Lara and Manor, before running express through the suburbs to Southern Cross Station, arriving at 5:11pm.
