About this Event
Welcome back! Designed as an antidote to the short, cold, winter days, this program—organized by iKnitiative and the Fowler student educators—offers an evening of meditative weaving with a curated DJ track, food, and drinks. Join us for a last chance to see the exhibition before it closes. Our student educators will offer personalized exhibition walk-throughs of their favorite pieces by Southern California award-winning artists Tanya Aguiñiga and Porfirio Gutiérrez.
iKNITiative is a knitting club on campus dedicated to donating knitted goods to the community. The goal of the club is to spread the love of knitting to our peers while raising awareness of the needs of refugees, people at hospitals and in homeless shelters. The club also seeks to teach knitting to patients, the elderly, and any other interested parties. The club is open to all forms of yarn crafts, including crocheting, looming, and weaving. We are passionate about giving back through needlecraft!
The Fowler Student Educator program engages UCLA undergraduates in different K-12 activities at the museum. Their primary responsibilities are leading gallery conversations in the exhibition spaces and guiding art-making activities. Student educators also assist with the organization and implementation of teacher programs, and support ongoing projects and community engagement in the education department. During the academic year, they enjoy professional development opportunities, including conversations with Fowler staff about various aspects of museum work.
