About this Event
Vortrag von Dietmar Feichtingerweiter bauen
Im Rahmen vom Modul Emerging Fields in Architecture (++), HB2, TU Wien
++
After graduating in 1988 from the Technical University of Graz with honors, he moved to Paris in 1989 where he founded the studio Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes in 1994. The studio has been credited with the construction of a diverse range of buildings across Europe. Since its creation the studio has been rigorous in its pursuit of energy efficiency and sustainability. The methodoligy of the practice points out the commitment to the social and the environmental concerns.
Overall the firm has built a strong reputation for its inventive structures and its investigative approach in designing bridges.
In 1998 the competition for the footbridge Simone-de-Beauvoir over the Seine, facing the Bibliothèque Nationale de France has been won. Inaugurated by Bertrand Delanoë on 13 July 2006, the bridge extends 304 meters with a clear span of 190 meters. It stands out as the formost amongst 37 Parisian bridges to be named after a female figure.
In 2002 the studio has been appointed winner of the competition for the Jetty, the new access bridge to Mont Saint-Michel, a monument classified world heritage by UNESCO. The bridge, 1841 meters in total length, was opened in July 2014. During high tides the Mount becomes an island again thanks to the global restoring operations.
Dietmar Feichtinger has teached on numerous Universities in Europe and has been appointed Professor in 2023 at the Technical University in Vienna, Austria, Institut of Architecture and Design. In 2014, Dietmar Feichtinger was elected permanent member of the Academy of Arts Berlin.
Even though he claims not to be a ‘bridge specialist’, he is the architect of more then 20 bridges and footbridges built including the Three Country Bridge between France and Germany over the Rhine and the Passerelle de la Paix in Lyon. In 2020 the Maritime Walkway Aldilonda in Bastia has been opened to public.
Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes is internationally-honoured with awards and publications for excellence in design and their built projects.
