Spend a weekend in Paris singing jazz!Vocal Jazz Workshop is taking place on 1 and 2 July 2023 in the center of Paris and we're inviting all interested in jazz to join us!
This workshop is designed for intermediate singers who would like to specialize in jazz. A basic understanding of music theory is required to follow the program.
Learn more about:
-Jazz Form, Chord Progression, Rhythm, Count-off
-Picking your key, preparing your charts, choosing the tempo and style of your tune
-Basic scales in Jazz and Blues
-Interpretation Approaches and Jazz Phrasing
-Swing VS Latin - rhythm, count-offs, grooves, and more.
-Improvisation as a tool of expression and communication with musicians
-Arranging your songs and developing your own style
-Communication with the band and learning the jazz lingo
-Circle Songs - group improvisational singing
and more to come!
You will receive:
-All the materials from the workshop
-A lead sheet of your song in your own key
-Snacks and beverage during the workshop
You are welcome to record the sessions for future reference.
NOTE: Bring a jazz standard you'd like to work on.
SCHEDULE
JULY 1 - SATURDAY
- MORNING SESSION - 10 AM -12 PM - Jazz form, Chord progressions, Rhythm, Lead sheets, Choosing your repertoire, Popular Jazz standards, choosing your key, Speech-level singing method, Jazz phrasing, Guidelines for singing jazz
- LUNCH BREAK - 12 - 2 PM (not organized but reservations can be made)
- AFTERNOON SESSION - 2 - 4 PM - Learning about and understanding Swing, How to sing a swing tune, Learning about different tempos and Counting off a swing tune (in different tempos), Interpretation methods, Improvisation basics, learning a new song (or we can work on a song you know), Introduction to Scat
JULY 2 - SUNDAY
- MORNING SESSION - 10 AM -12 PM - Blues form, Blues Chord progressions, Styles, Pentatonic and Blues Scales
- LUNCH BREAK - 12 - 2 PM (not organized but reservations can be made)
- AFTERNOON SESSION - 2 - 4 PM - Improvisation Techniques and Approaches, Circle Songs
The participation fee for the whole weekend: €150
The participation fee for one day: €80
Location: Salle Saint Roch, 35 Rue St-Roch, 75001 Paris, Metro: Pyramides (we will send you more info about the rooms after sign-up).

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Maja Savic is a professional jazz vocalist with over 15 years of performance and teaching experience. She has been teaching voice for years combining various techniques which makes her approach a Holistic one.
Currently based in Paris, performing and teaching regularly with her Jazz and Brazilian projects, as well as hosting regular singing workshops.
She developed her current approach and method during the last several years in Paris, with a focus on empowering singers to be confident on stage and embrace their individuality.
Her method focuses on viewing the Body as an instrument, Relaxation and Awareness techniques, deep Breathwork using techniques from Yoga and Mindfulness, Meditation, and Visualization for singers to enhance performance and boost confidence, Vocalizing through both traditional methods as well as Sounding and Healing through sound, Improvisation as Creation in the Moment through Circle Songs and discovering your own musical language and of course all that JAZZ.
