Coche-Dury is one of the most iconic producers in Burgundy, based in the village of Meursault. Jean-François Coche began working in the vineyards at just 14 years old, continuing a family winemaking tradition that dates back generations. The estate expanded significantly in 1973 when Jean-François married Odile Dury, creating the now legendary Domaine Coche-Dury.

Despite its immense reputation, the domaine remains remarkably small, totaling only nine hectares, with roughly half located in Meursault. The wines are among the most sought-after in the world due to extremely low yields, meticulous vineyard work, and uncompromising precision in the cellar. Robert Parker famously described Jean-François as “one of the greatest winemakers on the planet.”

A rarity in Burgundy, the vineyards are planted without clones, emphasizing massale selection and vineyard individuality despite the region’s challenging climate. The wines are fermented in barrel with no more than 25% new oak, followed by extended lees aging to preserve freshness and protect against oxidation. Wines are typically aged 15–22 months and bottled unfiltered. The hallmark Coche-Dury style is reductive, lean, intensely mineral, and exceptionally age-worthy. Since 2010, Jean-François’ son Raphaël and his wife have overseen the domaine.

2021 Domaine Coche-Dury Meursault Rouge $395
The grapes are destemmed and come from vines planted in 1980 on clay and limestone soils in Meursault.
