"What is web3?" is the kickoff to a community-led monthly event series on web3 topics.
About this Event

This event will provide an overview of web3 through a mini-workshop addressing "What is web3?" and a panel discussion on web3 use cases across different sectors.

  1. What is Web3 (30 min): During this "workshop" portion of the event, attendees will learn what is web3.
  2. Uses cases of web3 across different sectors (1 hour): This mini panel discussion will feature Nashville founders and leaders from various sectors (music/arts, fintech, law, retail, etc) who are building web3 platforms or adopting web3 technologies into their business.

About this monthly series:

Tennessee is primed to be a beacon for blockchain business thanks to forward thinking legislation, a strong innovation ecosystem and leading academic institutions.

In order to continue cultivating and promoting Tennessee as a leader in web3 - government, industry and academia are collaborating on a monthly web3 event series.

This series will be hosted at the Wond’ry the first Tuesday of every month beginning October 4 and will be streamed online.

**Streaming and parking information will be provided closer to the date of the event.

While the first event is an overview of web3, each of the following events will be geared towards specific topics in web3 such as fintech in web3, music/arts in web3, retail in web3, law in web3, cybersecurity in web3, etc.

Meet the partners behind this initiative:

  • Bunches: Derek Brown is the founder and CEO of Bunches, a Nashville-based startup that is building web3’s messenger. Brown played an integral role in the passage of HB2645, testifying in front of the Tennessee House of Representatives. He made history in May 2022 when he registered the first DAO — TennDAO in the state of Tennessee.
  • TennBeat: TennBeat is an online news outlet based in Nashville, Tennessee. Here you will find “news you can use” to make informed decisions and opinions on business, government and everything in between. Kathryn Rickmeyer is the reporter behind TennBeat. A former tv news producer and Nashville Post reporter, she is passionate about reporting on Nashville's thriving tech scene, connecting entrepreneurs to capital, talent and the university ecosystem and organizing event on hot button tech topics.
  • NashTech: Founded by Haley Zapolski (Zap), NashTech is an organization that seeks to building the startup community in Nashville.
  • Living Opera: A web3 multimedia startup that bridges classical music with blockchain technologies to produce transformative experiences.
  • Weld Recruiting: A web3 recruiting company that is here to help you find work you enjoy in web3.
  • DASH4Law DAO LLC: A company providing decentralized organizational development and technical support for the legal industry and others.
  • GetHedge: A Brentwood fintech company founded by Paul Bradley and David Schwartz that equips consumers with the technology to pay with and get paid in crypto.
  • Tiki: Mike Audi is the founder and CEO of Tiki, a technology startup that relocated from Boston to Nashville in December 2021. Tiki is building an NFT marketplace that empowers individuals to control and monetize their own personal data.
  • The Wond’ry: Vanderbilt’s Innovation Center providing the tools and resources for students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to bring ideas to life.
