About the workshop
I am delighted to be running this workshop at the stunning rural setting of Backsbottom Farm in the Roeburndale Valley which is on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire.
It is a truly peaceful spot amongst ancient woodland and home to a diverse range of wildlife. Backsbottom Farm is also home to The Middle Wood Charitable Trust which works to advance research and provides education on permaculture techniques for agriculture, forestry, wildlife and countryside management.
Backsbottom Farm is approx 30 minutes drive/15 miles from Lancaster.
The address is Backsbottom Farm, Roeburndale West, Lancaster, Lancashire, LA2 9LL
Take time out for yourself, learn a new skill and enjoy the creative process. In this workshop you will learn the basic basketry skills to make fruit bowl with the option to add a handle if time allows. This workshop is suitable for beginners and all materials and tools will be provided.
During this session we'll be making a 'stake and strand' basket. Starting by weaving a round base, we then add the side stakes, weaving in between to from the sides. You can make a fruit bowl or a small shopping basket if time allows adding a handle.
Hot drinks will be available through the session.
A note about Accessibility:
To get to the venue there is an approx 500 metre drive on a rough track to the car park - please be aware there are potholes on this track so drive with caution. It is possible to leave the car at the top of the track if you prefer. Once parked at the parking area there is an approx 10 minute walk to the venue. Unfortunately the farm isn’t very accessible for people with mobility needs.
Please note:
The willow varieties I have will vary depending on what is available at the time.
Bookings will close 1 week prior to allow soaking time for the willow. I often soak a little extra so if you are interested after the bookings close please send me a message and I'll see if I can accommodate.
